I’m incredibly proud to share that Margaret River Discovery Co has been awarded Gold for the second year in a row at the WA Tourism Awards.
Although MRDCo is still very much a one-person operation, this recognition is absolutely a team effort. It reflects the support of an extraordinary network of small local businesses, producers, winemakers, guides, community members, and passionate individuals who help shape the experience every single day. I genuinely couldn’t do it without them.
What I appreciate most about this award is that it isn’t about size or scale — it’s about authenticity. It recognises operators who deliver genuine connection, care deeply for their guests, contribute to their community, and respect the landscapes that make Western Australia so special.

At Margaret River Discovery Co, my vision was to develop a model for small scale regenerative tourism, driven by one guiding principle: travel should give more than it takes.
Over nearly two decades, the business has become a trusted advocate for high-value, low-impact travel — collaborating with industry leaders, conservation groups, and government to showcase that tourism can protect landscapes, strengthen communities, and inspire travellers to care deeply about the places they visit.

Sean Blocksidge is the owner operator of the Margaret River Discovery Company, an avid photographer, blogger and South West WA ambassador. In 2010 he won Western Australian Guide of the Year and his tours have been rated the #1 thing to do in Australia on the Tripadvisor website for the past two years.
