James Halliday gives five stars to Margaret River Best of the Best Wine Tour

Esteemed Australian wine journalist James Halliday just released his 2010 wine guide. And a cracker of a read it is!

This year we see two emerging superstar wineries from Margaret River achieving five star status. A five star rating means they are an “Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality”.

And the two wineries are- Fraser Gallop Estate and Edwards.

Both wineries have been amongst my favourites since the launch of the Margaret River Discovery Co. Indeed we visit Fraser Gallop for a priate lunch on the Discovery Tour and Edwards are usually our first stop of the day on the Best of the Best Wine Tour.

Notably Cape Mentelle winery has received some of the biggest accolades of all the Margaret River Wineries …… “Cape Mentelle is firing on all cylinders. It is hard to say which of the wines is best. Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Chardonnay, Shirax and Cabernet Sauvignon lead the portfolio”.

The great news for you is that we have exclusive behind the scenes access to Cape Mentelle vineyard and winery, where we enjoy a light degustation lunch matched to six of Cape Mentelle’s best wines.

Here are few of Mr Hallidays tips-
Cape Mentelle
2008 Chardonnay 96 points
2007 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 95 points

Fraser Gallop
2007 Cabernet Sauvignon 95 points
2008 Chardonnay 92 points

Edwards Wine
2007 Chardonnay 94 points
2007 Shiraz 94 points
