James Halliday Wine Companion commentary-

Last month the 16th edition of James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion (now known as the Halliday Wine Companion) was released and Margaret River was once again very well represented!Competition is intense for a place in Australia’s best of the best and 2016 was no exception! The end result for all wineries who receive such high gradings by such assessment is extremely satisfying, not only for the individuals involved but the region at large as it does set another quality standard in the years ahead.Again Margaret River also achieved great success in the associated awards winning:

Ten of the Best New Wineries
  • Cloudburst
  • Domaine Naturaliste
Ten of the Best Value Wineries
  • Larry Cherubino Wines
Ten Dark Horses
  • Greedy Sheep
In summary for 2016 there are 60 Margaret River wineries that have made James Halliday’s 5 star grade with some new faces. The list can be found in the linked commentary from Margaret River Wine Industry Association. The commentary also includes Margaret River awarded wines by variety. The winners of the Qantas epiQure Halliday Australian Wine Companion Awards were also announced last month with Margaret River taking out three of the Best Australian Varietal of the Year Awards:
